Dr Ben Criger

At Horizon Quantum Computing, Dr Ben Criger’s mission is to make sure that quantum programs run as reliably as possible. He uses a wide range of available techniques to remove unnecessary operations, increase the accuracy of those that really are necessary, and encode quantum information redundantly so that failure of an individual operation doesn’t cascade through the whole program. This allows Horizon to reduce the number of expensive quantum operations to be done, in exchange for classical pre-processing.

Ben received a PhD from the University of Waterloo, in 2014. He has worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the RWTH Aachen on quantum error-correcting codes for superconducting Quantum computers. After a stint at Delft University of Technology (2016-2019), designing decoders for quantum error-correcting codes, he joined Horizon in 2019.
